Which inequality matches the graph.

<-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4> The dot is on the 1 and is a filled in circle with the arrow going to -4.
A. 3x+1>4
B. 3x+1>/4
C. 3x+1<4
D. 3x+1</4
Is the answer C?

clearly, x <= 1, so

3x <= 3
3x+1 <= 4
Looks like D to me.
C would have an open circle on the 1, rather than a filled dot.

To determine which inequality matches the given graph, we need to understand how to interpret the graph.

The dot on the number line represents the value 1, and it is a filled-in circle. The arrow indicates the direction in which the graph extends. In this case, the arrow is going to the left towards -4.

To find the correct inequality, we can start by identifying the range of values the dot and the arrow cover. The dot is inclusive, meaning it includes the value 1. The arrow indicates that the graph extends to the left, possibly covering all values less than 1.

Now, let's analyze the answer choices:

A. 3x + 1 > 4: This inequality means that the values of x are greater than 4 when you solve the equation. It does not reflect the graph provided, so we can eliminate this option.

B. 3x + 1 >/4: This inequality is not algebraically correct and is not a standard mathematical notation, so it is unlikely to be the correct answer.

C. 3x + 1 < 4: This inequality means that the values of x are less than 4 when you solve the equation. This matches the graph where the arrow extends to the left towards -4. It is a plausible answer.

D. 3x + 1 </4: This inequality is not algebraically correct and is not a standard mathematical notation, so we can eliminate this option.

Based on our analysis, the most plausible answer is indeed C. The correct inequality that matches the graph is 3x + 1 < 4.
