Locks of Love Helps Kids in a Unique Way
by Charmain Williams

Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces for children and young people who have lost their hair because of illnesses. People under the age of 21 who cannot afford to buy an expensive hairpiece are eligible to receive one from Locks of Love. The organization accepts donated hair in order to make the pieces.
The Locks of Love hairpieces are of very high quality. The retail value of the hairpieces ranges from $3,500-$6,000. About six ponytails go into each hairpiece. Each strand of hair is injected into the base of the hairpiece by hand. The base of the hairpiece is a silicone cap that is molded to form a vacuum seal on the child's head. The hairpiece will not come off until the wearer removes it. The child can even wear the hairpiece while swimming and showering.
If you would like to donate your hair to Locks of Love, please follow the guidelines listed below.
Hair must not be treated with bleach. Permed hair is okay.
Longest layer must be 10 inches long from tip to tip.
Hair must be secured in a ponytail or braid.
Hair must be clean and dry.
Hair should be placed in a plastic bag, which should then be placed in a padded envelope.
To receive acknowledgement of your donation, write your name and address on a full sheet of paper and mail it along with the donation.
Mail your hair donation to Locks of Love.
