Two aircraft are flying toward each other , both are flying at a spped of 450 mph. With a distance of 45 miles between them, how long will it take before the aircraft meet?

The answer is apparently 2 minutes 30 seconds. Though I don't know how this was worked out?

Many Thanks

To find out how long it will take for the two aircraft to meet, we need to calculate the time it takes for them to cover the distance between them.

Since both aircraft are flying towards each other, their combined speed is the sum of their individual speeds. In this case, both aircraft are flying at a speed of 450 mph each. Therefore, the combined speed would be 450 + 450 = 900 mph.

The distance between the aircraft is given as 45 miles. We can use the formula Distance = Speed × Time to find the time it takes for the two aircraft to cover this distance.

Rearranging the formula, we have Time = Distance / Speed.

Plugging in the values, we get Time = 45 miles / 900 mph.

Simplifying this, we find that Time = 1/20 hour.

To convert this to minutes and seconds, we know that there are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute. So, we can multiply 1/20 hour by 60 minutes and then multiply the result by 60 seconds to get the answer in minutes and seconds.

Calculating this, we have 1/20 * 60 * 60 = 180 seconds.

Therefore, it will take 180 seconds for the two aircraft to meet, which is equivalent to 3 minutes.
