I know this seems like a somewhat silly question, but what shape is a pizza slice?

I know most of us are going to say "triangle." Is it a triangle? Can a triangle have a curved line in it or do all lines have to be straight?

I know we might say curvalinear triangle, but then don't all the sides have to curve?

I honestly don't know. I figure someone on here might know.

Matt

It is a "sector"of a circle.

It is a "sector" of a circle with two radii and a small piece of the circle that we call a sector.

Damon is right.

I don’t know that’s my Question.

It's not a silly question at all, Matt! A pizza slice is indeed commonly referred to as a triangle, but it's important to understand the specifics of its shape.

In geometry, a triangle is defined as a polygon with three straight sides and three angles. This means that all the lines in a triangle must be straight, and the angles formed by those lines must add up to 180 degrees.

When it comes to a pizza slice, the traditional shape is indeed a triangle. The crust forms the two straight sides, and the arc of the edge of the pizza gives the slice its curved shape, creating the third side of the triangle. However, it's worth noting that the curved line does not make the slice a curvilinear triangle, as the definition of a curvilinear triangle requires all sides to be curved.

So, while a pizza slice does have a curved line in it, it is not considered a curvilinear triangle because it only has one curved side. Instead, it is best described as a polygon with one straight side and two curved sides, which forms the triangular shape.

I hope this clarifies the shape of a pizza slice for you!
