    rectangle -- x by x+4

    x^2 + x(x+4) = 48
    2x^2 + 4x - 48 = 0
    x^2 + 2x - 24 = 0
    (x+6)(x-4) = 0
    x = -6 or x = 4, but a side cannot be negative

    so the square is 4 by 4
