Why did the Pilgrims not encounter much Native American resistance upon settling in Plymouth?

Is it because of the harsh winter, and the fact that many of the Pilgrims died on the trip?

  1. The Natives weren't too concerned about a handful of settlers; they didn't see them as a major threa.
