Find an equation for a rational function with the following properties:

vertical asymptotes at x=2 and x=−8
zero at x=17
horizontal asymptote at y=0

is it
(x-17)^2/(x+2).(x+8)

You need (x-2) in the bottom.

Also, yours has a horizontal asymptote at y=1 since top and bottom have the same degree.

Make it (x-17) / (x-2)(x+8)

and I think you have a winner.
