What were the differences between the Democrat and Republican Party Platforms in the 1860 election? PLEASE HELPPPPP

A. The Democratic Party platform tends to support cutting taxes.

B. The Republican Party platform tends to support free healthcare.

C. The Democratic Party platform tends to support less government.

D. The Republican Party platform tends to support cutting taxes.

I am not an American but I know enough that in that time,

the two parties were in effect opposite of what they are now.
That is today's Republican would have been a Democrat at that time, and
vice versa. (1860 Lincoln as a Republican, who today would be considered a Democrat)
So the "southern Democrat" found in many country songs would be today's
Republican.
So look at the choices and reverse the names of the parties.

e.g.
A. The Democratic Party platform tends to support cutting taxes
if that refers to 1860, ask yourself, Does todays Republican party support cutting taxes? YES
B. free healthcare would not be on the platform of either party in 1860
C. .... etc
D. ... etc

Dear, Mathhelper.

Historical facts should never be influenced by ideology. Ideology regardless of whom, does not apply to historical facts and evidence. Irrational reasoning, contextually deaf, emotionally regressing as long as ideology, not free thoughts

To determine the differences between the Democrat and Republican Party platforms in the 1860 election, we can examine the historical context and political positions of the parties during that time period.

In the 1860 election, the Democratic Party was divided into Northern and Southern factions due to growing tensions over issues such as slavery. The Northern Democratic Party, represented by candidate Stephen A. Douglas, emphasized national unity and popular sovereignty on the issue of slavery. Their platform focused on advocating for the rights of states to determine their own policies, including the issue of slavery. While the Democrats generally supported reducing government interference in economic matters, it is important to note that their platform did not explicitly mention cutting taxes.

On the other hand, the Republican Party, represented by Abraham Lincoln, emerged as an anti-slavery party. They believed in halting the expansion of slavery into western territories and ultimately abolishing it. The Republican Party platform aimed to promote economic growth and protect the rights of individuals. While they did not specifically advocate for free healthcare, their platform highlighted the importance of free labor and economic opportunities for all individuals.

Given the options provided, the correct answer would be:

C. The Democratic Party platform tends to support less government.

D. The Republican Party platform tends to support cutting taxes.
