Your realized income from your primary job is $2,034.24/month. Your fixed expenses are 30% of your primary job’s realized income. You have a 2nd job that pays $9.50/hr with deductions of FICA (7.65%), federal tax withholding (11.5%), and state tax withholding (7.75%). If you want to save enough in the next 10 months to have an emergency fund that will cover 5 months using only 20% of your discretionary monies from your primary job, how many hours per month do you need to work at your 2nd job to meet your monthly savings goals?

bullying?

I ask how he got his results because maybe I can help show what went wrong.
Heck, it's even possible that I made a mistake, and I can learn from his work.
If he's unwilling to show his calculations, I have to assume he's just guessing.

Are you really that miserable in real life that you have to passive aggressively bully middle schoolers on the internet who are looking for school help? Yikes dude, get some therapy. You livin a sad life bro.

Guys! Don't fret! I did all the typing and calculating so you don't have to.

Your answer is... And drum roll please!
It's... 42hr/month

Also... You guys have no chill.
Probably should be learning how to vibe more so than whatever this stuff is.

I thought you’re supposed to come here to get answers checked. Is 3 hours the answer or nah?

I got 3 hours per month but idk if that’s right

the answer is actually 3 hours!! i put 42 and got it wrong!!

3 hours is right!!

realized income: $2034.24

fixed expense: 2034.24 * 30% = $610.27
2nd job: $9.50/hr .. deductions: 7.65% (or .0765), 11.5% (.115), 7.75%(.0775)

discretionary money: realized income - fixed expenses
2034.24 - 610.27 = $1423.97

5 mth emergency fund: fixed expenses * 5 months
610.27 * 5 = $3051.35

monthly savings for 10 mths: 5mth saving / 10
3051.35 / 10 = $305.14/mth

20% discretionary money: 1423.97 * 20% = $284.79

amount need from 2nd job = 305.14 - 284.79 = $20.34

hourly rate: *work out the deductions of the 2nd job (example: 9.50 * .0765 = 0.73) then deduct all from the hourly rate
9.50 - 0.73 - 1.09 - 0.74 = $6.94

hours needed to work = 20.34 / 6.94 = 2.9 approx 3 hrs

hope this helps

3 hours is right I just did it and got it correct!

I did this for "Lucy" a while ago.

expenses = 0.30*2034.24 = 610.27
Since both jobs are taxed, you want
10[(2034 + 9.50x)*(1-(11.5+0.775)/100) - 610.27]*0.20 = 5*610.27
double-check my figures and solve for x.
