"Ah!" replied the horse, "justice and avarice never dwell in one house; my master has forgotten all that I have done for him so many years, and because I can no longer work he has turned me adrift and says unless I become stronger than a lion he will not take me back again; what chance can I have of that? Daniella sat on her bedroom floor, her math book and scrap paper scattered around her. She buried her head in her hands. She couldn't wait until Jorge, her next-door neighbor and math genius, got there. She had texted him a few minutes ago asking if he could come help her study for her math exam, and, as always, he responded right away with an enthusiastic yes. He had helped her out so many times over the last few years.

"Hi!" Daniella said cheerfully, her stress melting away at the sight of her neighbor at her door.

"Hey," Jorge replied as he walked in her room. "Let's get to it!"

Melanie walked out onto the stage, and her stomach dropped like a free-falling elevator. She crept slowly over to the podium and bent the microphone toward her mouth, like the straw in her pink lemonade. She gathered up all of her courage and began to speak, her voice an impostor as it boomed through the microphone. She flinched at its unfamiliarity and scanned the room for her mother's face.

In three to five sentences, identify two examples of figurative language from the passage above and explain what each example of figurative language means.
**For this just include at least 2 of the litterary areas in to about 2 setences then in the third sentence talk about what these mean.

Use the paragraph to answer the question.

My grandmother, whom we affectionately call Nani, is the best baker I know. If Lebron James is the king of the basketball court, then she is the queen of the kitchen. Her soft, warm chocolate chip cookies are better than Mrs. Field's or Rachel Ray's. Her key lime pie is the perfect delicate balance between sweet and savory. Her recipe box is her treasure chest, full of secret recipes handwritten on colorful notecards. Nani mixes and stirs and measures with as much care as a scientist in a lab. Everything tastes better if it's made by Nani, for everything she bakes is made with love.

In three to five sentences, explain the writer's word choices, including analogy and allusion. Explain the effect of word choice on the tone.
**For this just write about how the analogies used are to ttell the reader about how good the writer thinks his grandmas baking is and for a thrid setence talk about how its to give the reader a sense of god it is and how passionate the grandma is or how passionate the writer is about how he feels about her baking.**

Use excerpt from the book Mysterious Island by Jules Verne to complete the activity.

Everything was white, from the top of Mount Franklin to the coast—forests, prairie, lake, river, beach. The waters of the Mercy ran under a vault of ice, which cracked and broke with a loud noise at every change of tide. Thousands of birds—ducks and wood-peckers—flew over the surface of the lake. The rocks between which the cascade plunged to the borders of the Plateau were blocked up with ice. One would have said that the water leaped out of a huge gargoyle, cut by some fantastic artist of the Renaissance. To calculate the damage done to the forest by this hurricane would be impossible until the snow had entirely disappeared.

Spilett, Pencroff, and Herbert took this opportunity to look after their traps and had hard work finding them under their bed of snow. There was danger of their falling in themselves; a humiliating thing to be caught in one’s own trap! They were spared this annoyance, however, and found the traps had been untouched; not an animal had been caught, although there were a great many footprints in the neighborhood, among others, very clearly impressed marks of claws.

Herbert at once classified these carnivora among the cat tribe, a circumstance which justified the engineer’s belief in the existence of dangerous beasts on Lincoln Island. Doubtless these beasts dwelt in the dense forests of the Far West; but driven by hunger, they had ventured as far as Prospect Plateau. Perhaps they scented the inhabitants of Granite House.

In a complete, well-reasoned essay, identify the theme of the excerpt and explain how you determined that theme.
**I believe the theme is that, even though a place may be plentiful, it does not mean that you can have something from that place. I came to this conclusion because of this quote, "and found the traps had been untouched; not an animal had been caught.". The author also uses quite a bit of visual representation. By saying "Everything was white, from the top of Mount Franklin to the coast—forests, prairie, lake, river, beach.", it shows that it is a landscape that once could have been showered in abundance, but is now cold and dead.**

Note: Sorry I don't have question 11, I actually had a really hard time with that one and actually skipped it and later forgot about it but it was this if someone knows the answer could they write it in the comments or something?-

“You’re backing out on us now?” said Jessie.

“No, no—but while we’re inland, I want to scavenge for a few other things.” Smiling, Martin jumped into the boat. “I have a plan.”

"Her voice an impostor" = Personification, describes an item with human-like characteristics, in this case, a voice can't be an impostor as it's anything but a living individual.

Soooo they like to switch up questions in your tests the older and smarter we all get so switch it up. But if you're confident enough, try it on your own :)

@amongus@ is doing well and I think most of his answers are right, but check each one separately to be sure and get 1 or 2 wrong. Plus, they can't say you cheated if you used your own words and accidently got only 1 wrong.

Good luck students!

So anyone know the correct answers?

I'll let you all know the real answers if those ones arent correct
