1. Meg has a bowl of grapes. 7 grapes are red. 6 grapes are green. She eats all the green grapes. She eats 2 red grapes. How many grapes are left in the bowl?

2. Ellen puts peaches in a box. Then she gives 6 to Juan. She eats 1 peach. There are 8 peaches left in the box. How many peaches did Ellen start with?

She started with 13 grapes, ate 6 greens, so left with 7 reds.

After eating 2 reds, how many are left ?

Before eating the 1 peach , she must have had 9, if 8 are left.
She had given 6 to Juan, so she must have started with 14.
