Victor measured a circular lid and found d, the diameter, was 8 inches and C, the circumference was 25 inches. Which expression represents an approximate value for π ?

"If you know the diameter or radius of a circle, you can work out the circumference. To begin with, remember that pi is an irrational number written with the symbol π. π is roughly equal to 3.14.

The formula for working out the circumference of a circle is:
Circumference of circle = π x Diameter of circle
This is typically written as C = πd. This tells us that the circumference of the circle is three “and a bit” times as long as the diameter."

Thanks

how does that help us find the answer at all?

I had the same question on my review sheet and all the information it gave us at 4= dimeter and 12.6 = circumference
the answer choices were 12.6 x 4; 12.6 - 4; 12.6 / 4; 12.6 + 4
how are we supposed to answer this?

To find an approximate value for π, we can use the formula for the circumference of a circle, which is C = πd, where d is the diameter.

In this case, we have the diameter (d) as 8 inches and the circumference (C) as 25 inches. Plugging these values into the formula, we get:

25 = π * 8

To solve for π, divide both sides of the equation by 8:

25/8 = π

Simplifying the fraction, we have:

3.125 = π

So, an approximate value for π in this case is 3.125.

You're welcome.
