Hi i have a question...

Which of the following did not involve relations between the United States and Cuba?
a) Ostend Manifesto
b) Platt Amendment
c) the U.S.S. Maine
d) missile crisis, 1962
e) Roosevelt Corollary

Didn't all of these involve relations between the United States and Cuba? The Roosevelt Corollary didn't directly involve Cuba though...so do you think that is the answer? If someone could help me out that would be great! thank you.

The Roosevelt Corollary was used as justification for the 1906 intervention in Cuba.

All had to do with Cuba in some way, but the sinking of the USS Maine probably involved relations more with Spain than Cuba, at least from the US viewpoint. The Cubans probably had another viewpoint.

i would say the USS Maine because it had to do with Spanish Relations

What is the Ostend Manifesto?!

Ok thank you everyone! I think it is the UUS Maine now! You're right it involved Spain more. And the Ostend Manifesto I was a secret document written in 1854 by U.S. diplomats at Ostend, Belgium, describing a plan to acquire Cuba from Spain. Thanks so much everyone! :)

i think that it is the roosevelt corollary because it says "did not involve" and although it involved spain more, it still involved cuba

To determine which of the options did not involve relations between the United States and Cuba, we can analyze each option and understand its connection to the relationship between the two countries. Let's go through each option:

a) Ostend Manifesto: The Ostend Manifesto was a diplomatic proposal in 1854 that discussed the acquisition of Cuba by the United States. It indicates a direct relationship between the two nations.

b) Platt Amendment: The Platt Amendment, adopted in 1901, established conditions for the United States' involvement in Cuba's affairs after the Spanish-American War. It clearly suggests a relationship between the United States and Cuba.

c) the U.S.S. Maine: The sinking of the U.S.S. Maine battleship in 1898 played a crucial role in sparking the Spanish-American War. The incident happened in Havana, Cuba's capital, and consequently influenced the relationship between the United States and Cuba.

d) missile crisis, 1962: The Cuban Missile Crisis was a major conflict between the United States and Cuba in 1962. It was a tense, thirteen-day period when the two countries stood on the brink of nuclear war, making it a significant event in their relationship.

e) Roosevelt Corollary: The Roosevelt Corollary, established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, was an extension of the Monroe Doctrine. Although it did not directly involve Cuba, it outlined the United States' policy towards Latin America, including the Caribbean region, where Cuba is located.

From the above analysis, we can conclude that all of the options (a, b, c, d) involve relations between the United States and Cuba. While the Roosevelt Corollary (option e) did not directly deal with Cuba, it influenced the United States' stance towards Latin America, which includes Cuba. Therefore, the correct answer is none of the options since all of them involve relations between the United States and Cuba.
