Simone measures the width of one cardboard strip as 1/2 yd. A second cardboard strip measures 5/6 yd in width. Estimate the combined width of the cardboard strips.

A.
about 1/2 yd

B.
about 1 yd

C.
about 1 1/4 yd

D.
about 1 1/2 yd

I don't understand which is the answer. I did the work, find the LCM. (I think is right)

So 1/2 = 3/6.

3/6 + 5/6 = 8/6

8/6 = 1 2/6 = 1 1/3.

So 1 1/3. Which one would this round to.....

D??

<3 100% rite for connexus 6 grade

It wanted an estimate, which means ...

you don't want an exact answer and not to do alot of arithmetic

notice that 5/6 is close to 1
so our sum should be close to 1 1/2 or 1.5
Sure enough 1 1/2 is one of the choices, the others are way off our guess

Ok I took the test and got a 87. Honestly that's not that bad. Here are some answers.
