Why were the Russians more inspired by the Greek Orthodox Church than the Roman Catholic Church

They found Orthodox worship to be beautiful and mysterious and the Catholic Church too austere and plain.

They didn’t like the Pope’s approach to interpreting scripture.

They thought that Rome’s approach to religion was too fanciful—not serious enough.

all of the above

I have looked all through my lesson, I cann't find anything

It is not the first; the two dominations were nearly identical in creed and method of worship.

The second is about the interpretation of scripture, which did not deviate much from the Orthodox interpretation. The fact that the Pope, a power figure from faraway Rome, had such power was certainly a source of contention.

The Catholic approach was neither more nor less fanciful than the Orthodox one.

It cannot be all of the above since the first and third are contradictory.

The answer is B; Russian rulers and their people did not take kindly to the idea of being beholden to a foreign power like the pope.

Sorry - Dr. Horne.

I agree a, but it is not the best answer. Initially, it was a pagan country, and the first to move in were the Greek orthodox, and then, the marriage of...See the link. In my opinion, it was mainly a historical chance happening, however, in later periods, the TSARs did not take kindly to the Pope and outside intereference.

Tolstoy's "Romanism in Russia" gives accounts of Russian rulers, such as Prince Aleksandr Nevsky, who rejected Catholic conversion efforts out of fear that conversion would cause Russia's people and future rulers to be under the influence of Rome.

However, there is also evidence of early appreciation for Orthodox liturgy as brought by early fathers to Kievan Rus.

The answer is most likely a nuance of the two, but for practical purposes, B is most correct.

I have a photo my russian daughter sent me from inside a orthodox church the month Mikhail S. Gorbachev opened up the church to "openess" again. The photograph in a Hall shows wall to wall worshipers, no slightest room in between the folks. A packed house. It is an amazing picture.

Thank you bobpursley and Dr. Horne.

The student needs to study the text carefully to see which answer the teacher would prefer.
