Its C. Haiti was fighting French because France wanted to control Haiti. French plantation owners in Haiti owned several slave and they united in the struggle to gain independence. Haiti won its independence through slave revolt. They needed money, so Napoleon offered to sell the land they had in North America to Jefferson.
