Research Chevron

Using your research findings from the Library and the Internet, develop both an EFAS (External Factors Analysis Summary) table and an IFAS (Internal Factors Analysis Summary) table. The tables are to be submitted in one Excel file (one sheet for the EFAS and one sheet for the IFAS), separate from your assignment that will be written in MS Word.

You will be graded on your knowledge of the software and math in building the MS Excel tables, and on your ability to communicate in writing and present your arguments. The description of both your environmental and internal scanning process, including what factors you considered and why will be in your MS Word file.

In summary, you will submit two files: one file in MS Excel, which will count as two written pages, and one file in MS Word, which should be 4-6 pages in length.

Is there someone with this sort of specialized knowledge in the house?

To research Chevron and develop an EFAS and IFAS table, you can follow these steps:

1. Start by gathering information about Chevron from both the library and the internet. Look for relevant articles, news updates, financial reports, annual reports, and any other credible sources that provide insights into Chevron's external and internal factors.

2. Once you have collected sufficient information, create two separate tables - one for the External Factors Analysis Summary (EFAS) and another for the Internal Factors Analysis Summary (IFAS). You can use MS Excel to create these tables.

3. For the EFAS table, identify and list the key external factors that could impact Chevron's business. These factors could include economic conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, technological advancements, competition, and so on. Assign weights to each factor based on their perceived importance to Chevron's success. These weights indicate the relative significance of each factor.

4. Next, conduct an analysis of each identified external factor and determine the opportunities and threats it presents to Chevron. Assign scores to each factor, ranging from 1 to 4, with 4 indicating a major opportunity or threat, and 1 indicating a minor one. Write a brief description in each cell explaining the reason behind the assigned score.

5. Multiply the weight assigned to each factor by its corresponding score to calculate the weighted score for each factor. Sum up the weighted scores to obtain the total weighted score.

6. Finally, add a column in the EFAS table for comments or additional information that supports your analysis. These comments can include explanations, industry trends, or any other relevant details.

7. Moving on to the IFAS table, repeat a similar process as the EFAS table to identify and list the key internal factors that affect Chevron's performance. Internal factors can include strengths and weaknesses related to the company's resources, capabilities, structure, culture, management, and so on. Assign weights based on their importance to Chevron.

8. Analyze each internal factor by determining its impact on Chevron's performance. Assign scores ranging from 1 to 4, with 4 being a major strength and 1 being a major weakness. Include explanatory descriptions for each score.

9. Multiply the weight assigned to each factor by its corresponding score to calculate the weighted score for each factor. Sum up the weighted scores to obtain the total weighted score for internal factors.

10. Similar to the EFAS table, include a column for comments or additional information that supports your analysis of the internal factors.

11. Once you have completed both tables, save the Excel file with separate sheets for the EFAS and IFAS tables.

12. Additionally, you will need to write a 4-6 page report in MS Word, explaining your environmental and internal scanning process, factors considered, and the rationale behind your analysis and conclusions. Include your EFAS and IFAS tables as an appendix to your report.

Remember, throughout the process, it's important to use credible sources, provide clear explanations for your analysis and scores, and justify the weights assigned to each factor.
